Winx The Wonder Mare (c) Darryl John 2018
Intro: A Full Verse
Verse 1:
Cox Plate day of twenty eighteen, the field was as good as any we’d seen,
The day was October twenty seven, almost all punters were in seventh heaven.
Thirty eight thousand went to Moonee Valley,
With many millions more, watching home on the telly.
Verse 2:
The great race was the ninth on the card, form students didn’t find all that hard,
Winx the wonder mare was favoured by all, the short odds wouldn’t send Bookies to the wall.
From the man in the street to the expert’s tips,
There was one question on everyone’s lips.
Chorus 1:
Could she win four plates in a row?
We’d have to wait until five to know.
Waller had her looking oh so fine,
Bowman’s job was to get her to the line.
Lead Break: A Full Verse
Verse 3:
Waiting in the barrier, the starter said go, could she make it twenty nine in a row?
Chasing twenty two group one wins, all we could see were smiles and grins.
When the gates flew open to send them on their quest,
Most in the crowd thought Winx was the best.
Chorus 2:
Could she win four plates in a row?
Everyone had waited ‘til five to know.
Waller had her looking oh so fine,
Bowman’s job was to get her to the line.
Verse 4:
Winx settles fifth to get a nice sit, some of the others are racing off the bit,
On the home bend she pulls out wide, the champ has them covered within a stride.
Into the straight she turns on the speed,
Does it real easy once she’s in the lead.
Verse 5:
She’d just won her fourth plate in a row, everyone had waited ‘til five to know.
Waller had presented her looking so fine, Bowman’s ride got her over the line.
With stakemoney nearing twenty three million
There was no doubt she was one in a billion.
