I went down to the local dance
Hope to find me some romance
I saw a honey, I had no money
But I thought that I’d take a chance

I slowly walked on over to her
Hoping not to cause a stir
Then I asked her up to dance
She said beat it, not a chance
You look funny, you got no money
Were you looking for some cheap romance

I didn’t know just what to say
By then I wasn’t feeling OK
She knocked the wind right out of my sail
I didn’t think that I’d miserably fail

I saw another girl from afar
She looked just like a movie star
So I mustered up more nerve
Sidled over with a swerve
