It's a song about a young person who has been living in the country all of their life. Their house is located next to the main road that leads to a major city. The person has dreamed of moving out of their family home and moving to the big city to live for as long as they remember. Finally, the day of moving on has arrived.

Down The Road by Darryl John (c) 2008
Down the road, like I’ve done before,
Down the road, I’ll walk out my front door.
Down the road, to see what’s there,
Down the road, wonder if I dare.
Down the road, to make a brand new start,
Down the road, it’s time for us to part.
Down the road, I’m goin’ my own way,
Down the road, I’m leavin’ here today.
I’m movin’ on, there’s nothin’ for me here,
I’m movin’ on, it carries no great fear;
Down the road.
Down the road, like I’ve done before,
Down the road, I’m walkin’ out my door.
Down the road, my bags are all packed,
Down the road, the cards have all been stacked.
I’m movin’ on, there’s nothin’ for me here,
I said now I’m movin’ on, it carries no great fear;
Down the road.
Chorus:
The city beckons me, it’s callin’ me away,
Goodbye to all, is all I wanna say;
I’ve grown too old for this, I need a new abode,
I’m certain my future lies, down the road.
Instrumental:
Down the road, like I’ve done before,
Down the road, I’ll walk out my front door.
Down the road, to see what’s there,
Down the road, wonder if I dare.
.
I’m movin’ on, there’s nothin’ for me here,
I said now I’m movin’ on, it carries no great fear;
Down the road.
Down the road.....repeat and fade!
