Most Christmas songs are about celebrating in winter but in Australia Christmas is in summer, this is a slightly comical take of a hot Christmas Day Down Under.
♫It’s Christmas time down under once again,
Prezzies have been opened by, quarter to ten.
We’ll clean up all the mess,
Then we’ll go get dressed,
To have a roast cooked by the women.
Was really heating up outside by then,
Thirty five in the shade at half past ten.
Mum begins to hiss,
I’ve had enough of this,
Spending Christmas day in a hot kitchen.
It’s Christmas time down under don’t you know,
Should head down to the coast and take it slow.
Surf and sand and sun well that’s the go
Cos we’ve got lots of beaches, but very little snow.
Now Dad’s out in the backyard by the pool,
Everybody reckons he’s a crazy fool.
But the grog’s in the Esky,
And the chooks are on the barbie,
While the salad’s on the veranda keeping cool.
We finished eating and we thanked the host,
I must admit a barbie is, better than a roast.
Got into shorts and thongs,
Grabbed all my Beach Boys songs
Jammed in the car and headed for the coast.
It’s Christmas time down under don’t you know,
Head down to the coast and take it slow.
Surf and sand and sun well that’s the go
Cos we’ve got lots of beaches, but very little snow.
INSTRUMENTAL
It’s Christmas time down under don’t you know,
Head down to the coast and take it slow.
Surf and sand and sun well that’s the go
Cos we’ve got lots of beaches, but very little snow.
The sun is setting slowly in the west,
This day is nearly over and we passed the test.
Jingle bells were ringing,
With everybody singing,
Christmas down under is the best,
I said Christmas down under,
Now don’t you dare blunder,
Or try to steal my thunder,
Cos Christmas down under is the best.♫
